Living in splendid isolation

Access to the property is via Koonyum Range and Boogarem Roads, the forested site accessible by two-wheel drive vehicle.

The road home wends its way through old eucalypts, with vegetation identical to that in the adjoining Mt Jerusalem National Park, perfect for bush-walking and nature study.

Aptly named:

More than just a "home among the gumtrees", this property is located on the Koonyum Range, which forms part of the Tweed volcanic caldera, with ancient Mt Warning at its epicentre. The land is bordered by the 5160ha (12,750 acres) of native bushlands of the Mt Jerusalem National Park, home to the rare Albert lyrebird, native to the area. A family of these lives 50m from the house.

Within a natural north-east facing amphitheatre, the property sits in breathtaking pristine bushland, light years distant from city life. It’s easier to face both the inner world and external threats from this location. Climate-changing rises in sea-level pose no problem when you’re 500 metres above the coastal flats.

Facilities:

The nearest township, Mullumbimby, a leisurely 20-minute drive away, is 6 kms west of Australia's Pacific Highway, running along the country's east coast. The surfing beaches of Byron Bay and Brunswick Heads are 15 minutes from Mullumbimby.

Central to east coast Australia:

The current owners say: "Here, the world's at your feet. It's right at the heart of the action for Australia’s entire east coast."

Mullumbimby is within easy reach of two major airports - Coolangatta (on Queensland's Gold Coast) and Ballina, each an hour's drive away. Ballina now offers interstate connections, while Coolangatta is rapidly expanding its international operations.

The international airport at Brisbane, Queensland's capital city, is 180 km from Mullumbimby (roughly a two-hour drive). Mullumbimby is 810 km north of Sydney (about a 10-hour drive).

Sustainable Living:

Far from the madding world it may be. But - aiming to become carbon-neutral - the house is fully solar-powered by a 240v inverter system (in a separate power generation room), with batteries backed up by a heavy duty 9kva diesel generator. This means freedom from electricity bills!

This technology reliably drives the wireless broadband internet connection, so you’re constantly linked to the outer world. There are 5 landline phone points and a solar-powered radio phone, with wiring set-up to provide TV and radio reception from Qld and NSW. The site provides excellent mobile phone reception.

Consequently, it's been easy for the two owners to have successfully operated professional home-based businesses from the well-equipped office.
